To The Editor:
An unsigned Letter to The Editor laments that Missouri may be dead last to legalize marijuana and opines that, “It’s way past time to wake up and smell the smoke.”
What seems to be continually confused and misconstrued in the marijuana debate is pot’s parallel to alcohol.
Alcohol is like marijuana only if the objective of the drinker is to detach oneself from reality by overindulging. One does not have to have that objective if one imbibes a moderate amount of alcohol.
In contrast, the only reason for smoking marijuana is to get high. Being high on grass is an adverse mental condition.
This is widely ignored by the advocates of marijuana, which is being widely abused and leading to no good end to society.
