To The Editor:

We as Americans should consider being less dependent upon Asian factories for our Christmas presents.

Let’s consider using local businesses and shops for our gifts to others. Who says the gift needs to fit in a shirt box, wrapped in Chinese paper?

Everyone goes to the barber or beauty shops. A gym membership, a car wash, a newspaper subscription, a lawn mowing, golf at a local course, an oil change, a gift card for a meal at a local restaurant, a computer tune-up, a local house-cleaning service, local-made jewelry, and the list is only limited to your own imagination.

Christmas should not be about draining Americans’ pockets so that China can build another slave-mill factory. It should be about us (We the People), encouraging American small businesses to keep plugging away to obtain their dreams.

When we care about our fellow Americans, we care about our communities, and the benefits come back to us in ways we could never imagine.

We need to first remember the true meaning of Christmas and then let’s give gifts to the needy and those who have so much less than we do.

We can do this and still use local services. Let’s remember that we should be proud to be Americans and support American businesses.
