To The Editor:

I read with great interest the news of the Town and Country Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously defeating the proposed development of a retirement home in a residentially zoned area.

They listened, as they should, to the swell of opposition from their citizens.

In sharp contrast to this story was the fiasco of the planning and zoning commission and commissioners’ meetings held in Franklin County over the last few years concerning the Ameren landfill now proposed to be built in the Missouri River floodway at Labadie.

In that action there were multiple meetings where hundreds of residents attended and voiced opposition to the landfill. In the face of the strong opposition the county commissioners, in their infinite wisdom, voted to allow the landfill to proceed!

Too bad the commissioners of Franklin County aren’t as sensitive or respectful of their residents’ wishes as is Town and Country’s!
