Dirty Looks, but No Response
By Dawn Bowers, Robertsville
The Missourian
To The Editor:
This letter is in response to Tracy Dering’s letter dated Wednesday, June 20, 2012, that was titled “God-Hating Liberals Are All Alike.”
I resent that title. I have been a liberal Christian, a Democrat, all of my life, and of this I am very proud.
Let me tell you a story. Back in 2008, my husband and I saw some wood in a park in Valley Park that was free for the taking, but the wood needed to be cut up before it could be moved. While my husband was cutting the wood, I was walking around the park, and picking up trash that other people had thrown on the ground.
Then I noticed a bumper sticker on a car that said, “Christian or Democrat? You can’t be both.” I thought about that sign and I wrote a note that said, “I’m a Christian, and have been all my life. I’m also a Democrat, and have been that all my life, too. Since I’ve been here, I’ve been picking up other people’s trash. What have you been doing?” I then put that note under that windshield wiper.
The people who owned the car with the offensive bumper sticker came back to their car and read the note I left them. They gave me some dirty looks, but nothing needed to be said, so nothing was.
