To The Editor:
President Trump said he was going after criminals, but his immigration agents detained a 10-year-old cerebral palsy patient at the hospital.
Rosamaria Hernandez was brought to this country when she was only 3 months old, but when she was rushing in an ambulance to surgery, she was priority for deportation. The policies put forward by the president forced Border Patrol to treat Rosamaria as if she was a public safety threat.
That is just wrong!
If you want to live in a country where a 10-year-old girl isn’t targeted for deportation at a hospital, than I have a message for you: We need to fight.
We shouldn’t have to pass the Dream Act or immigration reform just to stop U.S. government agents from arresting a 10-year-old on her way to surgery and jailing her 150 miles away from her parents.
We shouldn’t need a new law to stop immigration agents from treating little girls in a hospital the same as serious, violent criminals. Such action makes us all less safe.
