To The Editor:

I read with regret your “On the Street Opinion”  column featuring the people who were not in favor of a military parade as proposed by President Trump.

I think the parade is a great idea. This country needs something like this to bring us together as a nation. I don’t look at it as a show of force, but rather as a sign of pride in our country. The opinions expressed in your column were (with one exception) all by people who didn’t experience the era of the World wars, Korean War or Vietnam War. Scores of young men were drafted and called upon to serve their country. Now we have men and women serving in places like Iraq and Afghanistan.

What better way to show our appreciation for these men and women, and also for our first responders. Young children and adults alike would enjoy the military bands, and the equipment used to preserve our freedom and protect our country.

It’s not a matter of cost. People now pay $50 to $100 or more to go to a concert or a ballgame. What’s wrong with contributing a few dollars to defray the costs of an event to show pride in our country and boost the morale of our forgotten military and to remember those who have given their lives for this country? We, as a country, need something like this. An event like this would provide needed patriotism in this country.

If they don’t want to do it in Washington, D.C., let’s do this right here in Missouri, the center of our country. I believe we would be much better at showing our belief and faith in our country than the right or especially the left coast.

Thank you for letting me express my thoughts.
