To The Editor:
Our thanks and admiration go to Washington for participating for the eighth time in the America in Bloom awards program.
Special thanks go to Darren Dunkle and Dave Weh-meyer (Washington In-Bloom committee co-chairs), and all their members, city staff, participants, sponsors and volunteers for organizing two days of remarkable tours and meetings on July 23-24, 2018. We have enjoyed meeting and spending time with many of you as you showcased all the reasons Washington should be proud.
America in Bloom envisions communities as welcoming and vibrant places to live, work and play — benefiting from colorful plants and trees; enjoying clean environments; celebrating heritage; and planting pride through volunteerism.
America in Bloom is more than flowers. Your judges are evaluating your efforts in areas that make communities great — Flowers, Landscaped Areas, Urban Forestry, Celebrating Heritage, Environmental Efforts, Community Vitality, Overall Impression and Community Involvement across Washington.
America in Bloom will provide the committee a written evaluation on Oct. 1, 2018. We welcome everyone to attend our symposium, held in Lexington, Ky., on Sept. 27-29, 2018, where we will announce this year’s winners in six population categories and four Circle of Champions categories.
