To The Editor:

Special interest groups are misleading us about the real effect of right to work.

Plain and simple, right to work makes it illegal for unions to require their members to pay dues. For example, we would think it crazy for local groups like the Knights of Columbus or the Elks to be barred from collecting dues from their members.

And yet this is exactly what right to work does to unions. The purpose is obvious: to bust the unions and deny us all a tool when negotiating wages.

My dad was a local businessman and used to say, “If it weren’t for the unions there would be no middle class.”

He was saying that without the unions there would be no voice for all working people. Stopping this misleading bill from becoming law will require a group effort. We all need to get out and vote no on Prop A on Aug. 7.
