To The Editor:

A few facts about human development in the mother’s womb.

At 10 weeks of development the baby has 10 fingers and 10 toes and looks like a little person about the size of an adult’s thumb. At 20 weeks, besides being bigger, the baby can feel pain. (OK, stay with me.)

Elective abortions after this age are called “Late Term Abortions.” There are two types. Saline abortions chemically burn the skin off the baby. Dismemberment abortions tear the baby limb from limb.

The U.S. is one of only seven countries in the entire world that allow this barbaric end to innocent human life. The U.S. Senate had the opportunity to correct this human rights violation but failed to pass the “Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act” in a virtual party line vote in January 2018.

In particular 14 “Catholic” Democrats did not support this commonsense bill. Among them were Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri and Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois.

Cardinal Timothy Dolan, archbishop of New York, and chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops Committee on Pro-life Activities has called upon the public to tell the Senate that this vote is absolutely unacceptable. Please remember that these senators did not support ending late term abortions in the United States.

McCaskill’s Senate term is ending and she will be running for re-election in the fall of 2018. Please vote for a pro-life candidate.
