We can understand why President Donald Trump is upset by an unsigned published opinion piece in The New York Times that said the president’s own staff is conspiring against him.
We don’t place any credibility to an unsigned opinion commentary, and we believe the newspaper used poor judgment in publishing the “op-ed” since it was unsigned.
It supposedly was written by a senior official who said he was part of a “resistance” working “from within” to thwart the president’s most dangerous impulses.
President Trump called the writer “gutless” and said if the anonymous person does exist, the newspaper “must, for national security purposes, turn him/her over to the government at once.”
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders called on the “coward” who wrote the piece to do “the right thing and resign.”
There is a guessing game going on now as to who wrote the opinion piece.
President Trump has demanded that his aides identify the “leaker,” according to two people familiar with the matter. The Associated Press said the two aides were not authorized to speak publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.
The president said that the so-called Deep State within the federal government had conspired against him. Many people believe there is a Deep State that has been trying to “unseat” the president ever since he was elected.
In a tweet, the newspaper used the pronoun “he” in referring to the writer. Then it backtracked and said the person who drafted the tweet is not aware of the writer’s identity, including the gender, so the use of “he” was an error. That doesn’t help the credibility of the newspaper. The Times has a reputation for accurate news reporting, but it also is considered a left-leaning newspaper.
Sooner or later, the identity of the writer will be known. Somebody will reveal the name. In the meantime, the speculation will continue. The entire episode does promote the belief that there is a Deep State in the federal government that wants “to get” Trump. Like other Hillary diehards, if there is a Deep State, the members can’t get over the Hillary defeat.
