We hated to learn the news that the Washington Area Chamber of Commerce lost out in the bidding for the state license office. The Chamber has operated the state license office since 1973.

The license office was not a profitable venture by the Chamber. Rather the Chamber operated it to provide a service for the public.

The Chamber gave good service and overall operated the office in a competent manner. We heard only a few complaints about the service the Chamber operation provided.

The Chamber lost out in the bidding to a large firm that operates a number of state license offices. It operates the office in Union. The Union Chamber operated the office also as a convenience for the public. The Union Chamber appealed the decision to give it to a private firm, but lost. The fact that the Union appeal was denied played a part in the Washington decision not to appeal.

We hope the new operator in Washington will provide service equal to what the Washington Chamber did.
