We thought it was a dead issue — the birthplace of President Barack Obama. It surfaced again when presidential candidate Donald Trump said at a press conference last Friday that Obama was born in the United States, “period.”
It really was a dead issue because President Obama is about to vacate the White House. Why Trump decided to bring it up again is strange as to the timing. Trump to now had doubted that Obama was born in the United States. Of course, he wasn’t the only one!
This never would have been an issue in the first place had President Obama produced a birth certificate immediately when it became a question. Why did he wait so long to produce a birth certificate? He should have known that it would be an issue until he actually gave the world his birth certificate.
Politics is a different world, often a strange one. Allegiences change. Positions on issues change. Promises are made by candidates that they know they can’t fulfill. They voice sticky phrases that aren’t true but they know they are speaking to the uninformed and gullible.
If the republic of the United States ever falls, it will be because of the indifference toward government and the lack of appreciation of the freedoms that Americans enjoy. When people are given too much they tend to be less appreciative.
