The Arch in St. Louis always will be the Arch, regardless of what Congress decides to call it.

The formal name is the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial. Congress is thinking about changing the name to the Gateway Arch National Park.

At the request of Sens. Roy Blunt and Claire McCaskill, the U.S. Senate approved the new name. The Senate referred the legislation to the House, where it is in a committee. Backing approval in the House are Reps. William Clay and Ann Wagner, St. Louis, and Blaine Luetkemeyer, St. Elizabeth.

Congress can name it whatever but to the people, it’s the Arch.

The new name may be on maps and other federal and state documents, even on plaques, but it’s still the Arch. It is internationally known as the Arch.

The Arch is about as permanent as anything can get!
