The golf world’s eyes are focused on St. Louis where the 100th PGA Championship at Bellerive Country Club is being played. Television will take the event to the far corners of the world.

It is no small undertaking and it’s a big economic boost for the St. Louis area. Estimates place its economic impact at more than $100 million.

Cities want this PGA event since it carries with it a certain amount of prestige for the city where it is being played in addition to the huge economic impact.

It is one of the jewels in sports and in golf.

It does make one wonder if St. Louis can win this type of an event, why can’t it put its resources together to solve some of the city’s major problems, such as crime, and a downtown that isn’t decaying but is hurting.

It’s all about priorities and a city government that doesn’t have its act together. Where’s the civic leadership? We need to be concerned because of being in the St. Louis Metro Area and what happens in St. Louis has a bearing on the area.
