To the surprise of hardly anyone, the Washington Town and Country Fair won nine awards of excellence in the Hall of Honor Communications Contest sponsored by the International Association of Fairs and Expositions.

The awards are well-deserved and recognition of the professional job the volunteers, Fair Board members and Chamber of Commerce officials do in marketing the annual five-day event. The Chamber is the sponsor of the Fair, generally recognized as the third largest in Missouri.

Honors received included the coveted “Best Overall Marketing Campaign.” Entries were judged against other Division I fairs, which includes the attendance under 100,000 or less category.

Joe Maniaci, the 2017 Fair chairman, said the “Best Overall Marketing Campaign” award is the major honor in the contest. He praised the work of all who were involved in the marketing campaign.

Fairs have to be marketed to achieve a large attendance. It’s a professional effort in every sense of the word.

The Missourian joins with the community in congratulating the Fair Board and Chamber officials for their excellent work in marketing the Fair. They are the first to give credit to the hundreds of volunteers for their dedication and resolve to make the annual event the best possible. Success has come because of the everlasting dedication of all associated with the Fair.
