The Missourian has received information and complaints about dog owners who allow their dogs to leave droppings on private property. It’s a problem and may be getting worse because more and more dog owners are observed walking their animals on sidewalks and streets.

It used to be that you would observe dog owners with one animal. Now two or three dogs on leashes can be seen with an owner.

There is a city ordinance that makes it an offense to not clean up droppings, but enforcement is a problem. We do have dog owners who always clean up after their dogs.

Dogs prefer grassy areas to do their thing and often that’s private property. Public areas are a regular target also.

We have dog owners who are considerate and respect the other person’s property. But there are a few who are inconsiderate and should be charged under the city’s ordinance. There are complaining witnesses who possibly would testify in municipal court.
