Friday April 12, was the 68th anniversary of the death of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who died of a cerebral hemorrhage in Warm Springs, Ga. He was 63 years old and had been in failing health.

Vice President Harry Truman was sworn in as president that evening, April 12, 1945. President Roosevelt was stricken while sitting for a portrait at the Little White House on top of Pine Mountain. He lived for about two hours after being stricken at about 1 p.m.

The following month, May 1945, World War II ended in Europe.

Roosevelt was the only president of this country who was elected to third and fourth terms. That happened because of World War II.
