The Washington Volunteer Fire Company will hold its first Junior Fire Academy June 4-6 for youngsters ages 14-18. The goal is to introduce young people to fire department operations and instill in them an interest in serving their community in this type of volunteer service.

This is an excellent program and even if they don’t become volunteer firefighters in the future, they will gain valuable knowledge about the department’s operations and its service to the community.

The Washington department is considered one of the best volunteer firefighting companies in the state, even region. It has excellent facilities and well-trained personnel. It also has had excellent leadership throughout its many years of service.

This is a great opportunity for young people. Cost of the three-day course is $40, with lunch provided. It will be held at the Washington Fire Training Complex in the Heidmann Industrial Park. Additional information is available at the central fire station on Fourteenth Street, or at fourriverscc.org.

The fire department is providing another outstanding public service by conducting this academy. It should be an annual program. The interest should be high.
