We were sorry to learn that Dr. Brady J. Deaton, University of Missouri chancellor, plans to retire in November. He has served as chancellor since October 2004. It is good news that he will continue to serve as chancellor emeritus with a focus on the university’s role in international development.

Deaton is the 21st chief executive of MU. His leadership has been outstanding. He has been very visible at MU and in the state. MU has enjoyed great growth under his guidance.

From a Kentucky farm family, to the Peace Corps, to a higher education teaching and administrative career, Dr. Deaton joined the MU staff in March 1989 as a professor and chair in the Agricultural Economics Department. He became deputy chancellor in 1997 and became provest in 1998. He has been active in many community, university and national organizations, and has been widely recognized, as a recipient of many awards.

His achievements at MU are many. The university has been fortunate to have his services. He has had a distinguished career. We wish him well.
