Congratulations are in order for the Washington volunteers who comprise the Washington In Bloom committee for its record the past eight years in competition sponsored by the America In Bloom organization.

Washington In Bloom has earned such a reputation that it has been selected to host in 2020 the national contest symposium of America In Bloom. This is a unique honor that will put a national spotlight on Washington.

America In Bloom is an organization that fosters competition across the country and a learning experience on how to beautify, preserve heritage and plant pleasing-to-the-eye flora.

Washington has attained high honors in the national competition year after year. The awards certainly helped in the city being chosen to host the national symposium. Sally Bocklage, co-chairman of the Washington committee, said the national organization selects cities to host the symposium based on what other communities can learn from the host city. She added that the community involvement here was a factor also. Dave Wehmeyer is the other co-chairman of Washington In Bloom.

Washington in the competition has been named a Community of Champions, has been recognized as the “Best of the Best,” and has earned the Community Involvement designation. It has won other awards. Washington competes in the medium population category.

The volunteers in Washington are a dedicated group. With the city’s cooperation, the downtown section has reached a new height in appearance. Washington is fortunate to have Washington In Bloom.
