An Emissourian Facebook post went out asking followers to comment their “summertime fails.” To much of my surprise, there were some great comments.
Please read these comments below. You will not be disappointed.
Wes J.: “The round-a-bout on Denmark Rd...”
Lynn W.: “Life.”
Jennie H.: “Spring tennis with my husband ... we went from winter to summer swelter, we skipped spring!!”
Bambi D.: “I still have to wake up early and go to work every day because I still haven’t won the lottery.”
Jeff Y.: “Tried to write loser in my neighbor’s grass with grass killer and ended up in the ER after getting it in my eyes.”
Stephanie F.: “Went head first down a water slide. Resulted in a busted head, chipped tooth and a $700 ER visit.”
Debbie A.: She would have liked to have had a “Nice tan, down 30 lbs., three weeks in Hawaii, huge lotto win, instead, white as a ghost, still working, down 6 lbs and not wearing a grass skirt. Epic fail.”
On Twitter – @ethanbusse: "One summer while on a camping trip, a buddy of mine decided it would be a good idea to jump out of a moving UTV to chase wildlife. He face planted instantly. The deer just stood there and stared at him thinking 'Nice one, pal!' "
Thank you so much to everyone who contributed. I enjoyed reading all comments!
Quick Shout Out
I wanted to give a thank you to the St. Clair VFW. Senior vice commander Eric Jezierski presented me with a plaque for the coverage of the post Friday night.
At first, I thought I was taking photos of an event, however, little did I know I was going to be in front of the camera.
I was pleasantly surprised. Although unnecessary, I really appreciate the plaque. It’s nice to know that people are reading my stories and value the quality of work that I do.
Thank you to Post Cmdr. James Myers for taking the photo!
Last week, I took a hula lesson with some dance friends in West County. It was pretty cool. Not only did we learn basic dance moves, but we also got a history lesson.
We learned movements to two songs. There was a man playing an acoustic guitar and sang the lyrics to the songs as we danced. It was interesting.
The instructor had Hawaiian skirts for us to wear. There were no grass skirts, but pretty cloth ones. I think she said they were her grandmother’s skirts.
Hula dancing is about isolation. Sometimes your hands or arms are just moving and other times just your feet and hips are just moving at once. If you have not crossed hula dancing off your bucket list, I highly suggest you do so.
The shows nominated for an Emmy for outstanding comedy series are “Atlanta,” “Barry,” “Black-ish,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Glow,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Silicon Valley” and “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.”
I hope “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” or “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” win.
The shows nominated for outstanding drama series are “The Americans,” “The Crown,” “Game of Thrones,” “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Stranger Things,” “This Is Us” and “Westworld.” I hope “Game of Thrones” wins.
Actresses nominated for supporting actress in a comedy series are Zazie Beetz, Laurie Metcalf, Betty Gilpin, Aidy Bryant, Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon, Alex Borstein and Megan Mullally.
This one is tough to choose because these ladies are extremely talented. My first choice would be McKinnon, my second choice would be Borstein and thirdly Mullally.

Fun Fact: The housekeeper’s name in 1998 “The Parent Trap” is Chessy, not Jessie.
