Violet A. McDonald, 76, New Haven, passed away Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at New Haven Care Center.

Mrs. McDonald was born in New Haven Sept. 5, 1935, the daughter of the late George Panhorst and wife Vera, nee Haynes.

She was the widow of Kenneth "Blitz" McDonald. They were married June 21, 1954, in Clayton, N.M.

Mrs. McDonald is survived by a daughter, Deborah Burgess and husband Robert, O'Fallon; a son, Daryl McDonald and wife Brenda, Eureka; two sisters, Shirley Dietrich and husband Sylvester and Margaret Menz and husband Louis, all of New Haven; a brother, George Panhorst Jr. and wife Shari, New Haven; two brothers-in-law, Raymond McDonald and wife Mary and Ronald "Stub" McDonald, all of New Haven; her grandchildren, Renee Graslie, Sherry Buller and Danielle Burgess; her great-grandchildren, Joshua Buller and Christopher, Kyle and Caitlyn Graslie; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister-in-law, Corine McDonald.

Mrs. McDonald was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, New Haven. She worked for Pratt's Pharmacy, New Haven, for more than 25 years as a clerk. She then went to work for Mallinckrodt for eight years and then for Code 3 in New Haven for five years and then retired.

Visitation was scheduled to be held Tuesday, Jan. 3, from 4-8 p.m. at Toedtmann-Grosse Funeral Home, New Haven.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 4, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. David Poe officiating.

Burial will be in New Haven Cemetery, New Haven.

Memorials to St. Peter's U.C.C., New Haven School or Massas Creek Companion Animals in care of Toedtmann-Grosse Funeral Home are preferred.

The family is being served by Toedtmann-Grosse Funeral Home, New Haven.
