Opal Beatrice Ashworth, 86, St. Clair, departed this life Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, in Washington.
Mrs. Ashworth was born March 4, 1925, in St. Louis, the daughter of Alger Dallas Browning and wife Ada May, nee McCoy.
On Dec. 8, 1941, she was united in marriage to Richard Harm Ashworth and six children came to bless the union.
Mrs. Ashworth is survived by her son, Ronald Ashworth and wife Judith, Union; three daughters, Imogene Jones and husband Gorman, High Ridge, Flora Dillman, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Dorothy Schepp, St. Clair; 14 grandchildren; many great- and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Ashworth; her parents, Alger and Ada Browning; two sons, William and John Ashworth; two brothers, Ray and Rodger Browning; and one sister, Dorothy Hudson.
Mrs. Ashworth was a Christian and longtime member of First Baptist Church, St. Clair. Her church was a very important part of her life, and Mrs. Ashworth was always involved in church activities.
Her first priority in life was caring for her home and family. Mrs. Ashworth enjoyed cooking and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved her animals, especially her cats.
Mrs. Ashworth also enjoyed the fellowship of her many friends at the St. Clair Senior Center where she played the guitar and harmonica in a kitchen band.
She loved music and was a talented guitar and harmonica player. Mrs. Ashworth also enjoyed singing. The love and many wonderful memories created with her family will be treasured by them all.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 21, at First Baptist Church, St. Clair, with the Rev. Jim Collins officiating.
Interment was in United Methodist Cemetery, St. Clair.
Memorials to the Alzheimer's Association are preferred.
The family was served by Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair.
