Jewell Bailey, 85, St. Clair, formerly of St. Louis, departed this life in St. Clair Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011.

Miss Bailey was born in St. Clair Aug. 6, 1926, the daughter of Alexander Bailey and wife Tressie, nee Keys.

She is survived by her brother, Roscoe Bailey and wife Shirley, St. Clair; her sisters, Marie Cox and Nancy Braun, both of St. Clair; nieces; nephews; great-, great-great- and great-great-great-nieces and -nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends.

Miss Bailey was preceded in death by her parents, Alexander and Tressie Bailey; and two brothers, Daniel and Albert Bailey.

During most of her adult life, Miss Bailey lived in St. Louis. She was a Christian and while living in St. Louis had attended a Methodist church in her area. After moving back to St. Clair, she visited St. Clair United Methodist Church.

Early in her working career, Miss Bailey had been a store manager at Stix, Baer & Fuller, St. Louis, where she was employed for about 25 years. After returning to St. Clair, Miss Bailey had been employed part time at R&R Ace.

She was a very active woman, always doing something. She loved to spend time outdoors, whether cutting grass or working in the yard or in her flower garden.

Miss Bailey very much liked spending time on the river, camping and such. She loved spending time with her family and the precious memories they had shared will be cherished by them all forever.

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 30, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair, with the Rev. Gary Daud officiating.

Interment was in Mount Zion Cemetery, St. Clair.

Memorials to the Alzheimer's Association or Salvation Army are preferred.

The family was served by Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair.
