Mabel E. Breckenkamp, 99, Washington, passed away Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, in Washington.

Miss Breckenkamp was born March 3, 1912, at noon in Leslie, the daughter of the late Julius Breckenkamp and wife Elsie, nee Linstromberg.

She was baptized March 31, 1912, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Beaufort. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith May 16, 1926, at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Port Hudson.

Miss Breckenkamp received her education at Ebenezer Lutheran School and Campbellton Public School. In 1931, she went to work for Dr. and Mrs. Walter A. Maier, the first "Lutheran Hour" radio speaker.

In 1941, she began work at Concordia Theological Seminary Library as an assistant to the librarian for 36 years. From 1941-1977, she was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church.

After retiring in 1977, she moved back to Washington to live and care for her mother. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church Ladies Aid Society, Earnest Workers as well as Lutheran Women Missionary League, Concordia Seminary Guide and Concordia Historical Institute Auxiliary.

Miss Breckenkamp was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Walter Breckenkamp; and a sister-in-law, Marcie Breckenkamp.

She is survived by her nephew, Bob Breckenkamp and wife Bert, Washington; her nieces, Doris Ann Sullentrup and husband Lester, Washington, and Janet Branson, Union; great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Washington, with the Rev. Mark Bangert officiating.

Interment was in the church cemetery.

Memorials to Immanuel Lutheran Church Building Fund or Mercy Hospice are preferred.

The family was served by Nieburg-Vitt Funeral Home, Washington.
