Washington Police Arrest Armed Man After Standoff
Washington police arrested a man early Friday following a standoff at a home on South Locust Street.
Police said the man allegedly pointed a gun at one or two other people inside the home. When officers arrived after 1 a.m. they saw the man inside holding a rifle, according to Police Chief Ken Hahn. He initially refused to come out or talk to officers.
Patrol officers and members of the Franklin County Emergency Response Team (ERT) set up a perimeter around the house and called in an officer trained in hostage negotiations who contacted the man by phone. He later surrendered to officers, Hahn said. No one was injured.
The man later was taken for a psychiatric examination, Hahn said.
