Council Approves Annexation of Parcel With Electronic Sign
With no discussion, Washington City Council members Monday night approved an ordinance annexing a small parcel of land off South Point Road.
Annexation of that 1.23-acre parcel, owned by Jeff Wilson, had been a controversial issue with the council over the past couple of years because of an electronic billboard that was erected on the site without proper county permits. The sign also did not meet county or city setback requirements.
The council previously held public hearings on the annexation request but a final decision was tabled last September as council members were awaiting action on Wilson meeting certain conditions set by the county.
The petition had been in limbo since then.
The conditions were set under an agreement with the county to drop misdemeanor charges against Wilson for code violations.
Those included payment of the county’s legal fees in the case, obtaining necessary permits and petitioning the city for voluntary annexation.
The council voted unanimously to approve the ordinance authorizing the annexation.
