Washington School Officials to Present at Business Conference
By Susan Miller, Missourian Staff Writer

Washington School District officials will attend the Missouri Association of School Business Officials’ annual conference Wednesday through Friday of this week at the Lake of the Ozarks.
Shelley Kinder, district CFO, and Julie Bell, assistant to the superintendent, will give a presentation on “How to Develop an Award-Winning Budget Book” at the conference.
The school district has won the Meritorious Budget Award (MBA) for excellence in budget presentation from the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) for the last two years.
The award is conferred only to school entities that have met or exceeded the Meritorious Budget Award criteria. To earn the award, the school district submits its budget for a rigorous review.
Superintendent Dr. Lori VanLeer and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Brendan Mahon will present “Strategies to Consider When Planning Budget Reductions in Difficult Times.”
VanLeer said the association asked district officials to make the presentations.
“This is always a productive conference with a lot of good information,” said VanLeer. “There will be numerous sessions related to human resources, the business office, state updates and academic services.”
Gov. Jay Nixon will speak to attendees on Friday, she said.
