WINGS Family Picnic in the Park Is May 11
The WINGS Educational Foundation will host its annual Family Picnic in the Park barbecue Friday, May 11, to raise money for teacher grants for the Washington School District.
The event will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Washington Fairgrounds.
There will be more activities this year than ever at the picnic. Riverside Reptile Wildlife Center will have reptiles for children to learn about, touch and hold.
Also, Loli the Clown will create balloon animals for children and the Washington Middle School National Junior Honor Society will provide face painting. Two bounce houses will be inflated.
Students in the Washington Middle School Jazz Band, Washington High School Jazz Band and WHS Choir will perform between 4 and 6 p.m. The Texas Giants will close out the picnic with music from 6 to 7 p.m.
A menu of pulled-pork sandwiches, pork steaks and chicken dinners will be available, as well as hot dogs and pork burgers for children.
Advance tickets are now on sale. Tickets may be purchased from WINGS board members, Washington-area public schools, Bank of Washington’s 14th Street location or by calling WINGS at 636-231-2000. Tickets also will be sold at the event.
Local businesses have one last chance to pre-order lunches. Lunches will be delivered or may be picked up. The deadline to place orders has been extended to Monday, April 30. People may fax their company’s orders to 636-239-0219 or call Lori Strubberg at 636-231-2000.
WINGS Educational Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the educational experience of students in the district. Since 1993, WINGS has given more than $300,000 to the schools through teacher grants.
In addition, WINGS provides college scholarships, recognizes teachers and support staff for outstanding contribution to educational excellence, and recognizes alumni, community leaders, and educators who have shown exceptional personal, community and professional achievement with a WINGS Hall of Honor.
