The Creek Sports Bar and Grill owner Don Grahl said his first event in Downtown Washington was a huge success, so he is planning several encores.
“It was standing room only,” Grahl said of the event his restaurant hosted April 25 at the River Front Patio, formerly La Dolce Vita Winery, at the corner of Front and Lafayette streets.
The patio was open the same evening as Sunset on the Riverfront.
“People really had a great time,” said Grahl, who will have the patio open again May 17-19 during Downtown Washington Art and Winefest.
Live music also is planned that weekend. On Friday, May 17, there will be classic rock by Dave Bennett from St. Louis and Saturday, May 18, will feature hometown talent Ed Rohan playing contemporary music.
Grahl said he doesn’t have live music scheduled for that Sunday, but the theme will be “blues, beer and barbecue.”
The patio also will be open Thursday, May 23, for the next Sunset on the Riverfront and Burnt Whiskey, a Washington band, will perform., and Friday and Saturday, May 24 and 25.
No music has been lined up for that Friday but Jake and Sarah LeBeau, a duo new to the area, will be the featured performers May 25.
“They played at The Creek and were a huge hit,” Grahl said.
The River Front Patio will feature a full menu of traditional barbecue fare, including spareribs, boneless pork steak sandwiches and chicken. The patio also will offer a full line of domestic and craft beer, a large selection of wine and its own unique margaritas, he said.
Grahl said the idea for the River Front Patio came about because he hated seeing the former restaurant and bed and breakfast with its unique outdoor seating in the heart of downtown closed.
“The people who owned it had passed away and I just couldn’t stand seeing it empty,” he said. “I contacted the heirs and they were happy to see it put to use. We are really excited to be in the downtown area.”
He said he hopes to have events at the riverfront all summer, but hasn’t confirmed any dates yet beyond this month.
The River Front Patio also is available for private parties, Grahl said, such as birthdays, weddings or graduation parties.
