Downtown Washington Inc.’s annual “Keep Washington Beautiful” cleanup day was very successful, according to Bridgette Epple, executive director.

“It went really well and I was pleasantly surprised by the number of volunteers since this is a very busy time of year for people,” she said. “We had about 25 people in all helping, which included downtown board members and staff.”

Epple said the volunteers did a lot of spraying for weeds.a

“We started pulling weeds and spraying at Front and Jefferson and worked our way up to the old downtown office at Jefferson and Second streets,” she said. “We also worked along Main Street and other parts of downtown.”

Volunteers also dug out planting areas and planted flowers and mulched around the old post office, which is where the Downtown Washington Inc. office is located as well.

“We were a small, but mighty group and we got a lot done,” Epple said.

After all of their hard work, volunteers were treated to lunch prepared by the Lions Club.

Volunteers also received T-shirts donated by the Bank of Washington.
