Phoenix Park Tennis Courts on Schedule
By Karen Myers, Missourian Staff Writer

Washington Parks Director Darren Dunkle said work on the tennis courts at Phoenix Park is on schedule.
“We’re really making good progress,” he said.
Asphalt was laid the last week of June. This week, crews will begin putting up parts of the fence. Chain link should be installed at the end of this week or early next week.
Dunkle said he expects wiring and lighting to be installed at the courts the second week of July.
If there are any low spots on the asphalt, which Dunkle said is normal, crews will use a leveling compound to fill the spots before painting the courts.
The asphalt needs to cure for 18 to 30 days before it can be painted.
The playing area of the court will be blue with white lines. The perimeter of the court will be green.
After the courts are painted, they need to cure an additional 10 to 14 days before play begins.
The courts are expected to be complete Aug. 12.
Sieve Contractors is the general contractor on the Phoenix Park work.
The project is being funded under the city’s half-cent capital improvement sales tax program.
