Union police arrested four suspects in connection with two meth labs Wednesday.

Police responded to a home in the 500 block of South Jefferson Avenue at 3:05 p.m. when the homeowner reported a chemical odor in the residence.

Union police, with the assistance of the Franklin County Narcotics Enforcement Unit (FCNEU), recovered a clandestine meth lab in the home. A 38-year-old grandson male family member of the homeowner had been staying at the home, authorities said.

The family member was taken into custody as well as two Sullivan men who had Franklin County warrants for their arrest.

Jimmy Dean Hawkins, 50, was arrested at the home on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance and driving while intoxicated charges; and Bobby J. Massa, 27, was arrested for a manufacturing controlled substance warrant.

A 35-year-old St. Louis woman was also arrested at the residence, police said.

Meth labs components were located in the home.

A second lab was located at 6:05 p.m. in a trailer at Main Street Park at the corners of Main Street and Lindner Lane.

An off-duty Union police officer reported a chemical odor in the area and police found an active lab in the home.

Union Fire Protection District firefighters were dispatched to assist in the cleanup of chemicals. The FCNEU assisted in the process.

A 29-year-old Union man was arrested. His name is not being released pending warrants.
