Former Union Middle School Teacher Indicted for Sodomy, Tampering With Witness
A former Union Middle School teacher faces sodomy and tampering with a witness charges after allegedly sexually assaulting a male student earlier this year.
Traci A. Storie, 37, Leslie, is charged in Franklin County Associate Circuit Court with two counts of statutory sodomy and one count of tampering with a witness, according to Franklin County Prosecutor Bob Parks.
The victim was a student of Storie’s when the incident occurred, according to Union R-XI District officials.
Authorities said the alleged assault occurred earlier this year away from the school, after school hours and outside of the city limits. Union police initially were contacted, but the investigation was handed to county investigators.
The boy was under the age of 14 when the alleged assault occurred, authorities said.
Parks said the sodomy charges stem from Feb. 2 incidents that occurred in Leslie. The tampering allegation is from a Feb. 9 event, but Parks said he could not comment on that charge.
Following accusations against Storie, investigators began examining forensic evidence related to electronics and DNA.
Storie worked for the district for 15 years. She was first employed in 1997 as a teacher at Beaufort Elementary.
She most recently taught computer and technology classes at Union Middle School.
In February, Union public school officials said they placed Storie on paid leave immediately after learning of allegations of sexual assault involving a student.
She did not return to the classroom after district officials learned of the allegations. She resigned from the district March 20.
Prosecutors requested a $25,000 bond. Storie was arrested Tuesday night and was bonded out the same night.
