Local Girl Scouts collected nearly 19,000 personal care items during two drives last month.

The Scouts in District D12N1 of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri donated those items to the Union Food Pantry and Agape House in St. Clair, according to D12N1 Co-Chair Jeanetta Stowe.

Some donations also were taken to an outreach center in Gerald.

This was the first year that Scouts held the “Showering the Community” event outside of the Union Wal-Mart. During that drive, the Girl Scouts gave a wish list to shoppers who purchased items in the store. There were 6,072 items collected.

That event was held Saturday, April 21, the week before the annual April Showers event.

The troops that helped with the drives were 266, 2718, 3847, 4271, 4180, 4599, 4594, 4312, 3219, 1292, 2245, 3379, 2047, 1703, 564, 3023, 4596, 4243, 4249, 559, 3706, 4593, 918, 561,529, 390, 2655, 1136, 564 and 3847.
