Several streets will be improved this year that initially hadn’t been included in this year’s fiscal year budget.
There will be more funds to complete the road projects, in part, because portions of the Main Street project instead come out of next year’s funds instead of the current fiscal year.
“There is more money coming out of next year’s budget than we first planned so we to decided to increase the number of streets this year,” said Mayor Mike Livengood.
The fiscal year runs from July through June.
Livengood added that each year officials try to budget about $400,000 for street repairs.
He added that due to that amended Main Street schedule, funds were shifted from next year’s budget to this year’s financial plan.
The additional funds, about $200,000-$225,000 slated for street repairs, are also in part from the city’s estimated reimbursement of about $390,000 from the Missouri Department of Transportation for what the city overpaid during the Highway 50 widening project completed in 2010.
The city has received about $80,000 from the state because the Highway 50 widening project was $2 million under budget.
Public Works Director Harold Lampkin has a running list that prioritizes streets by need of repair.
