Family members of Sgt. Robert J. Traxel, 34, of Union, are asking that residents show their respect for the fallen soldier by standing roadside as the motorcade escorting his body comes into Union Thursday.

The funeral for Traxel will be at Kutis Funeral Home, located at 5255 Lemay Ferry Road, Mehlville, at 10 a.m. Thursday, with a graveside service to follow at Midlawn Memorial Gardens, Union.

The motorcade is expected to travel from Interstate 44 to Highway 50 sometime after 11 a.m.

The motorcade will travel west of I-44, then west on Highway 50. From there, the vehicles will go south on Highway 47 to Midlawn.

Traxel died July 2 while performing his annual training duties in support of Beyond the Horizon Guatemala exercise.

A Traxel Children Memorial Fund has been set up at River Region Credit Union in Jefferson City. Donations can be sent to the attention of Dana Alderman.
