Union Girl Wins National Champion Soloist Award
Liberty Skylar McKenzie, of Union, is an Applause Talent National Champion Soloist in the 8 and under division.
She is a third year veteran of Dance Zone & More DZ Dazzlers Competitive Dance Team.
She began dancing at age 4 and has trained in various dance styles including: jazz, tap, musical theater, ballet and gymnastics. Liberty spends four days per week in training at the Dance Zone & More and hopes to use her training to one day become a princess at Disney World.
Liberty, entering second grade at Central Elementary, is an honor student and has earned several awards including student of the month.
On July 6, Liberty was awarded the first-place overall in the 8 and under category at the Applause Talent National Competition held in Columbus, Ohio, for her solo, “Call Me a Princess” choreographed by Susan Buscher, studio owner and director. Her solo earned a platinum award, special judges’ award and an invitation to the “Best of the Best Showcase.” Liberty’s solo also won fifth overall, high gold and a special judges’ award earlier this spring at the Applause Talent Regional Competition in St. Louis securing placement to compete in the national competition.
Liberty also competed in three other competitive dances at the national competition all placing within the top 10. Earning, two high golds for “What Ya Got Cookin’ ” and “Let’s Get Loud.” A platinum award, a special judges award and a group VIP invitation to the “Best of the Best Showcase” for the mini-line dance “Boots,” with her best friends, Mia Small, Ciara Lane and Cassidy Terry.
Going into her fourth season with the DZ Dazzlers Competitive Dance Team, she will be in several competition dances including a new tap solo, which is her favorite style of dance.
