A judge set a $50,000 cash-only bond for a Gerald area man charged in connection with a traffic crash back in February.
Deputies arrested Brian C. Hill, 35, when they found him walking along Highway 50 near Route BB on Feb. 17, the day after the crash which left his wife seriously injured, according to the sheriff’s office.
Hill is charged with one felony count of first-degree property damage and one misdemeanor count of trespassing in the incident.
Deputies initially were called Feb. 16 to a residence on Highway AC near Spring Bluff after a citizen reported a suspicious person in the area. The caller said the man came to her door, demanded water and then left.
Earlier that morning deputies responded to a traffic crash in the same vicinity. A car, later linked to Hill, left the road at a high rate of speed, crashed through two fences and crashed into a barn.
Deputies found evidence that the couple had been living in the basement of the Spring Bluff Baptist Retreat off of Highway AC. As a special condition of the bond, Hill is ordered not to enter the retreat property in the future.
