A Union man had minor injuries in a crash that killed an Illinois woman and two children.

According to the Illinois State Police, Dennis F. Nagle, 40, of Union, was driving a Cascadia Freightliner Thursday, July 26, at 8:49 p.m. on Interstate 70 near Mulberry Grove, Ill., when the tractor-trailer struck the rear of a 2010 Toyota Camry driven by Suzette Y. Lee, 41, Mulberry Grove. Both vehicles were eastbound.

The Lee vehicle was eastbound and slowed for a deer crossing the interstate and then stopped for a second deer in the roadway, according to police.

Illinois State Police said Nagle was unable to stop in time and struck the rear of the Lee vehicle.

Lee, and passengers Lillian, 8, and Vivian, 6, were pronounced dead at the scene by the Bond County Coroner. Nagle was taken to Greenville Hospital with minor injuries, authorities said.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, but it is not known if the children were wearing seat belts, police said.
