Man Flees From Police, Hides Under Bridge

Union police arrested a 34-year-old Union man Saturday after he fled on foot from police after an attempted traffic stop.

Union police said the man was driving an older model Ford pickup on Highway 47 at Highway 50 when he did not stop for the traffic light.

An officer attempted to stop the vehicle while it was eastbound on Highway 50. The suspect drove the truck across the Bourbeuse River bridge.

The man then stopped the vehicle and fled on foot eastbound on Highway 50. He jumped over a guardrail and then ran under the bridge, police said.

A passenger in the truck slid into the driver’s seat and fled the scene. The driver made a U-turn and drove westbound on Highway 50.

The 34-year-old suspect was found hiding in tall weeds under the bridge, police said.

He was arrested on a St. Louis County warrant. He had a revoked license and smelled of alcohol, police said.

A test indicated that the man had a blood alcohol content of .095 percent.

The pickup was recovered at the Super 8 Motel parking lot where two men and a woman who were in the truck ran into the woods.
