As of Friday, charges still had not been issued in the burglary of a home off Holtgrewe Road early Saturday, April 28.

Prosecuting Attorney Bob Parks said earlier this week that he was waiting to receive reports of the incident from the sheriff’s office before deciding on charges.

Two men, ages 19 and 20, were booked and later released in the case.

Sheriff Gary Toelke said an elderly couple was awakened shortly after 3:30 a.m. and saw one of the suspects in their bedroom going through a jewelry box. The man fled and they called 911.

A short time later, deputies received a call of a traffic accident near the Pottery Road and Highway 100 intersection.

A Pacific police officer who lives in the vicinity was alerted to the crash and held two men until Washington police and county deputies arrived to take them into custody.

A 20-year-old man in the car was identified as a renter who had been living in the basement of the couple’s home. The second suspect was identified as a 19-year-old Washington man.

Toelke said that the 20-year old was in possession of jewelry reported missing from the residence.

Names of the suspects were not released because they had not been charged in the case.
