Gray Summit Man Killed in Route 100 Crash
A Franklin County man died early Saturday when the pickup truck he was driving ran off Highway 100, east of Gray Summit, and struck a tree, the Missouri Highway Patrol reported.
Richard E. Zufall, 22, Gray Summit, was ejected when the 1990 Ford pickup he was driving overturned about 2:22 a.m. According to the preliminary patrol report, Zufall was wearing a safety belt but it was damaged in the crash and he was ejected.
The patrol said Zufall was westbound on Highway 100, 3.5 miles east of Route MM, when he failed to negotiate a curve. The truck ran off the right side of the road, struck the tree and overturned, according to the report.
The patrol said a county deputy pronounced Zufall dead at the scene at 2:24 a.m.
