A Washington reserve police officer was wounded Tuesday in an accidental shooting, Police Chief Ken Hahn said.
The incident happened about 1:15 p.m. at the shooting range at the Franklin County Sheriff's Department in Union as Washington officers were undergoing firearms training.
Hahn said Reserve Officer Kevin Beumer, 30, had just completed a segment of the training and was holstering his weapon when it accidentally discharged. The bullet struck him in the left leg, travelled down his leg and then exited and lodged in his right foot, according to Hahn.
Beumer, who has been a reserve office since November 2010, was transported to St. John's Mercy Hospital where he was listed in good condition, Hahn said.
The incident is being investigated, the police chief said. Beumer is expected to make a full recovery.
