Union Man Spits in Police Officer’s Mouth, Charged With Assault

A Union man is charged with assaulting a police officer after he allegedly fought with police and spat into an officer’s mouth, authorities said.

Alexander R. Hinson, 19, is charged in Franklin County Associate Circuit Court with assaulting a law enforcement officer, a felony.

Union police said the vehicle Hinson was driving was stopped Sunday, Sept. 30.

Authorities suspected the vehicle was involved in a different incident.

Hinson, who police allege was intoxicated, began fighting with officers and spat into the mouth of one officer. Hinson then claimed to be HIV positive, police said.

He was taken to Mercy Hospital Washington and refused to cooperate with police after a search warrant was obtained for his blood.

Hinson was later transported to the Franklin County Jail.

Other charges are pending, police said.
