Sheriff's Office Seeking Charges in Burglary Off Holtgrewe Road

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is seeking burglary charges against two men in the break-in early Saturday of the home of an elderly couple who live off Holtgrewe Road.

Sheriff Gary Toelke said the couple was awakened shortly after 3:30 a.m. Saturday and saw one of the suspects in their bedroom going through a jewelry box. The man fled and they called 911.

A short time later, deputies received a call of a traffic accident near the Pottery Road and Highway 100 intersection.

A Pacific police officer who lives in the vicinity was alerted to the crash and held two men until Washington police and county deputies arrived to take them into custody.

A 20-year-old man in the car was identified as a renter who had been living in the basement of the couple's home. The second suspect was identified as a 19-year-old Washington man.

Toelke said that the 20-year old was in possession of jewelry reported missing from the residence.

Names of the suspects were not released pending issuance of felony charges in the case.

The investigation is continuing.
