The Franklin County Commission this week adopted a policy to help clean up some issues with the naming and mapping of roads.

County Counselor Mark Vincent said the list of road name suffixes, descriptions and abbreviations was adopted to help the county’s GIS mapping department.

Until now, the county didn’t have a policy to determine the best suffix for a proposed road name submitted to the county’s addressing authority.

The descriptions include alleys, avenues, boulevards, branches, circles, courts, coves, crossings, drives, forks, lanes, loops, paths, places, points, roads, runs, spurs, streets, terraces, trails, walks and ways.

The descriptions will be available by downloading the PDF under "Related Documents" in this story.
