Man Charged in Armed Robbery at New Haven

An 18-year-old New Haven man has been charged with first-degree robbery and armed criminal action after he allegedly held a clerk at gunpoint and demanded cash from a Fidelity office.

Oscar Rivera was arrested Saturday at a home in New Haven for Tuesday’s armed robbery of the Circle Drive business in New Haven. He is being held at the Franklin County Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond, according to court records.

New Haven police said Rivera went into the Fidelity telephone office at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, pulled a handgun, aimed it at the clerk and demanded money.

He was given between $200-300 cash before he left the office and fled on foot.

Police said that New Haven Elementary School and New Haven High School were on lockdown after the robbery.

New Haven police said charges are being sought against an accomplice.
