Franklin County deputies who responded to a call at a home in the Villa Ridge area ended up solving a residential burglary and arresting a suspect.

Charged with second-degree burglary and stealing in the break-in at a home on Espowe Road is Abrahim M. Benzabeh, 22, Villa Ridge, according to a felony complaint issued in the case. Benzabeh was being held on a $50,000 bond.

Two guns were the only items stolen in the home burglary which was reported June 9, a sheriff’s office spokesperson said.

When officers responded to the separate call Sunday, June 10, they saw Benzabeh running into a wooded area. Deputies set up surveillance and arrested the man later when he came out of the woods, according to a report.

The man was in possession of a shotgun shell which led deputies to question him about the Espowe Road burglary. Benzabeh admitted to breaking into the home last week, the sheriff’s spokesman said.

As of Tuesday, deputies had not recovered the guns taken in the burglary.
