A Franklin County man who pleaded guilty in May to federal child pornography charges has been given an eight-year prison sentence.
August Poertner, 45, Pacific, was sentenced Friday by U.S. District Judge Jean C. Hamilton to 97 months in prison. When he is released he will remain on lifetime supervised parole, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
Poertner pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing child pornography and one count of receiving child porn.
The indictment alleged that Poertner received and possessed child pornography between January 2009 and October 2011.
The maximum sentence for possession of child porn is 10 years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines. The sentencing range for receiving child pornography is five to 20 years.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Drake prosecuted the case.
